REPORT – WELLNESS SEMINAR 5
ACTIVE REHAB on 24th Oct 2009
We School and Nina Foundation organized the wellness seminar on ACTIVE REHAB. An area which is still nascent in India, and such a seminar was conducted in Mumbai for the first time in We school on 24th Oct 2009.
The instructor faculty was 28 yrs old Rajeev Virat from INDIAN SPINAL INJURY CENTRE, Delhi. He himself is on a wheelchair due to MS (multiple sclerosis). 3 times marathon winner, bronze medalist in wheelchair tennis and trained under Arun Sondhi, an Olympic gold medal winner. 140 participants comprising of members with disability, MSSI members, principals, lecturers and students from physiotherapy and occupation therapy of various hospitals in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai benefited from this highly interactive seminar. He demonstrated and enabled all participants to do several things from a wheelchair, like negotiating thresholds, transfers, doing wheelies and also climbing stairs. He also showed several possibilities for quadriplegics with minimum use of upper limbs. Active Rehab is the first step to recreation and sports.
The seminar was from 9.30 to 3.45 pm in yoga room, 4th floor. Prof Tendulkar gave the inaugural address on behalf of We School. All the participants were highly impressed and overwhelmed with the organization and hospitality. The We School student team put up a grand show.
